Trackside is based on a fixed odds system where each number, from 1 to 12, has a chance of winning that corresponds with its odds. For example, number 1, which is always paying $4 has approximately 21% chance of winning in each race. This 21% chance is not affected by the amount of money invested on number 1 in any given race.

This is one way of thinking about how the winner of a Trackside race is decided - If there are 100 balls in the barrel, 21 of the balls are marked number 1, 17 are marked number 2, and so on until you get to number 12 which has only 2 balls in the barrel. The barrel is spun and a winner is drawn. In this way the winner is completely random, yet the lower the number the more chance it has of winning a race.

This is the case for each and every race. It’s kind of like flipping a coin; over a large number of flips you will end up with an even number of heads and tails, but if you’ve flipped five heads in a row the very next flip still has a 50% chance of turning up heads. The same goes for Trackside. If the number 2 runner has won three races in a row, in the race that follows it will once again have a 17% chance of winning, no more-no less.
